30 (Rogers’s Company) Battery Royal Artillery traces its history back to 1759, earning its title from Captain Thomas Rogers, who commanded the unit for nearly two decades. The Battery is most famously remembered for its role at the Battle of Waterloo in 1815, where it served with distinction under Rogers’ leadership. Throughout the 19th and 20th centuries, the unit deployed globally, from the Caribbean to the Mediterranean, maintaining a reputation for steadfastness in the face of evolving warfare.
Currently, the Battery is part of 16th Regiment Royal Artillery, based at Baker Barracks on Thorney Island. As a Ground Based Air Defence unit, they operate the Sky Sabre missile system. Known as a “Super Battery” within the Regiment, they specialise in providing medium-range protection against sophisticated aerial threats and recently made history by being the first battery to manage dual operational deployments to both Poland and the Falkland Islands simultaneously.
