The 11 (Sphinx) Battery Royal Artillery badge is embroidered to order in our own workshop on warm, heavyweight anti-pill fleece that keeps looking good wash after wash. Casual, practical and made for 11 Battery RA soldiers and veterans – a proper bit of kit for Sphinx Battery.

Your name, service dates, unit motto, tour, operation or nickname can be embroidered around the 11 Bty badge on the left chest, free of charge. Just fill in the personalisation fields when you order. Back printing isn’t available on fleeces, but we can add embroidery to the right chest or sleeve on request. Want a hand with the wording? Just ask.
Fleece Features
Made from 320gsm anti-pill polyester fleece, this quality full-zip jacket has a cadet collar to keep out the chill, zipped side pockets with mesh lining, cord pulls on every zip and a bungee drawcord in the hem to lock in warmth.
Available in a choice of colours and sizes XS–4XL (4XL fits up to a 50″ chest). Decorated garments should be washed at 40°C.

History
Originally raised in 1755 as Captain David Watson’s Company of the Royal Artillery, the unit has a deeply distinguished operational record. It earned its unique honorific title, “The Sphinx,” following its heroic actions during the Egyptian Campaign of 1801, where it supported the British forces under Sir Ralph Abercromby against the French army. In recognition of its bravery at the Battle of Alexandria and subsequent operations, King George III uniquely granted the battery the right to bear the badge of the Sphinx.
The battery went on to serve with distinction through the Crimean War, the Boer War, and both World Wars. During the Second World War, it fought as a field artillery unit across North Africa, Italy, and into Northwest Europe. In the modern era, the battery transitioned into a specialized target acquisition and surveillance role.
Today, based at Roberts Barracks in Larkhill as part of 5th Regiment Royal Artillery, the battery operates specialized acoustic, radar, and weapon-locating systems. It provides critical, high-tech deep observation and tracking assets to locate enemy artillery and protect friendly forces on the battlefield.
The battery wears its historic honorific directly in its official title, and personnel proudly wear the Sphinx emblem on their tactical recognition flashes to commemorate their 1801 Egyptian heritage.

You can customize this further directly on the product page by adding text around the badge—completely free of charge—or adding printed text to the back in a variety of colours for a small fee. For advanced requirements, we can accommodate text or graphics on the sleeves, right breast, or full images on the back. We also offer monochrome embroidery (black looks exceptional for a subdued, tactical finish).
